Storing Table Linens

Next to the food, a beautiful table scape is what everyone thinks about when it comes to Thanksgiving dinner.  The last thing you want to do is have Shores provide expert care for your fine table linens only to take them home, stick them in a drawer, and find them in disarray the following year.  You already know that Shores carefully inspects all linens, treats each stain by hand, applies the latest cleaning techniques, irons each piece with the greatest of care, and hangs linens with tissue in the folds to reduce creases.

Whether you plan on cleaning your own table linens  or having Shores take care of them, the storage recommendations are the same.

How to Store Your Cleaned Table Linens

  • Never Put Away Soiled Table Linens
Dirt, debris, and spills will set over time causing permanent stains; plus, critters are attracted to the particles that are left behind.
  • Fully Dry Your Linens
Be sure your linens are dry before putting them away.Even the smallest amount of moisture can lead to mildew.
  • Plastic Wrap or Bags
Remove your linens from any plastic wrap or bags.
  • Folding Your Linens
If folding linens, place sheets of acid-free tissue paper between to soften folds and edges.Cover them in a 100% cotton, clean, white cloth, or white sheet.Place the heaviest items on the bottom and the lightest on top.
  • Starched Linens
Be careful storing starched linens because the starch will attract insects.
  • Hanging Linens
If hanging linens, hang each piece individually on a padded or strut hanger.Space the hangers far enough apart so air can circulate. If you choose to cover your linens, use a pillowcase or a 100% cotton, clean white cloth, or white sheet.
  • Best Place to Store
Store your linens in a cool, dry, well-ventilate place like a closet.Never store linens in a wooden chest, plastic bags, or cardboard boxes. Also, be sure to store away from direct sunlight.
  • Periodically Check Your Linens
If you only use your fine linens once or twice a year, periodically check them for blemishes and refold them changing the position of the folds.
